"Students need feedback and lots of it, but grades are not the best form of feedback. Grades by their very nature are post-learning, and we want students to learn. That means we can't spend a lot of time using grades as learning tools. Instead, we do a lot of formative and specific feedback along the way, regarding what has been accomplished thus far. To teach those bigger messages of life, we talk about them, we do think-alouds, we read stories about them, we ask students to give testimonials about them, we affirm students, we have one-on-one talks, we model those sentiments, and we help students create calendars of completion. At every step we hold up a constructive mirror so that students can see how they are developing."

Third Grade Homework Feedback
Homework is a formative assessment. Your child will receive feedback from me, but not be graded. Homework feedback will guide my instruction and will help your child develop necessary understanding to succeed on summative assessments, projects or tests. It is an important means of communication, and I appreciate your support with homework.
Scoring Guidelines:
4/Secure: Consistently applies the skill or concept accurately and independently.
3/Progressing: Shows steady growth with minimal support.
2/Emerging: Shows limited growth with considerable support.
1/Area of Concern: Exhibits little understanding of the concept or skill with considerable support.
I hope these codes help with communication.
As always, if you have any questions about your child’s work, please do not hesitate to contact me.
